Career Objective: To become the leading alpaca expert in the country by combing prior knowledge of the alpaca industry and business with the veterinarian and health, textiles and finished products, and judging aspects of the North American alpaca industry.  To develop a technique applicable to all United States alpaca farms that uses superior genetics to produce alpacas that are optimally raised in a healthy environment in order to create award winning alpacas that yield finished products completive in the global fiber and wool market.   

Education:

North Carolina State University, Raleigh – Bachelors in Animal Science and Bachelors in Textile Apparel and Management: Fall 2007 to present

·         Served as Vice President (Fall 2008) and then Co-President (Spring 2009) of the University Entrepreneurship Network at NC State.  Responsible for setting long term goals for the UEN, team building with the other officers, e-mailing members, developing  the first Education Workshops for the club, and representing the UEN at other clubs and at local business organizations in the Triangle area.

·         Active membership in the University Entrepreneurship Network at NC State (Fall 2007 to present), Pre-Vet Medical Association (Fall 2007 to Fall 2008), Pre-Vet Medical Association Correspondence Committee (Fall 2007 to Fall 2008),  and Animal Science Club (Fall 2007 to present).

·         Participated in community services projects including Habitat for Humanity, Service Raleigh, Take Back the Night, Dogs Go Fast, the Raleigh State Fair, Ag Awareness Week, and Farm Animal Day at the NC State Animal Science Education Units.

Certification and Training:

·         Certified in FAMACHA testing (parasite / anemia identification)  with the University of Georgia

Career Experience:

BelleauWood Farms Alpacas – Vice President and Co-Owner: December 2005 to present

·         Thirteen years of experience working on the family alpaca farm for a herd that has grown to 230+ alpacas

·         Represented BelleauWood Farms Alpacas at show and conferences nationwide.

·         Co-hosted the BelleauWood Select Alpaca Auction and Carolina Classic Alpaca Show with over five hundred people (2006 to present).  Responsibilities include animal selection, catalogue descriptions, planning speakers, meeting with the event center management, advertisement proofing, and ensuring a smooth event for all of our auction consignors and show exhibitors

·          Responsible for show registration and filing ARI (Alpaca Registry Inc.) pedigrees

·         Extensive experience with customer relations during Open Houses (when 20+ people visited monthly), farm visits (which occur at least weekly, if not more), and answering phones. 

·         Trained new breeders in maintaining and caring for their alpacas in both routine and emergency situations. 

·         Veterinarian work has included giving shots (monthly worming annually, vitamins, annual vaccinations, etc.)

·         Birthed babies (routine procedures, administering CPR, and pulling out if dystocia or breeched); bottling crias; observing changes in behavior that indicate illness or discomfort; assisting in vet visits including ultra-sounds, plasma transfusions, cracked and abscessed teeth, abrasions, health checks and insurance exams, assisted vet with a necropsy, assisted vet with Body Condition Scoring, and more invaluable experiences.   

·         Administered and well versed in the uses of different medications including Oxitocin, Corid, Albon, Panacur, Probios, Banamine, Naxcel, Ivermectin, Dectomax, Teramycine, Epinephrine, Gastroguard and many others that have been administered on a regular monthly basis or in extreme health situations. 

University of Massachusetts, Amherst - Camelid Herd Manager/ Assistant to the Director of Camelid Studies (the nations’ first Undergraduate Camelid Program): August 2005 to December 2005

·         Responsible for assisting in outpatient services, representing the program at farm visits and with visitors, daily clean up of the barn area, mass emails sent to the alpaca industry, setting up the Herd Logic program, creating brochures on the program. 

·         Served as Teacher’s Assistant in the Advance Camelid Herd Management course (34 students), and required setting up weekly farm tours with local breeders.

·         Assigned clean-up chores, decided the alpaca shows students attended, planned the winter pre-vet and veterinarian conference hosted by the university, planned the programs open house, and taught lab sessions to animal science students about both alpacas and miniature donkeys. 

BelleauWood Farms Alpacas – Assistant Manager and Director of Medical Routines: December 1996 to August 2005

·         Assistant Manager and Staff Trainer, responsible for and supervised the farm staff. 

·         Interviewed over 40 applicants for farm hands, trained new hires on alpaca care and husbandry, and answered any and all staff’s questions concerning doses, medications, procedures, and information. 

·         Called in and supervised temporary staff from agency as needed and submitted bi-weekly payroll of staff to payroll processing.
