2001 Spring Shearing

This Spring, we sheared 40 alpacas. After
rescheduling numerous times because of severe rain, we finally had our
shearing day. Esther Friedman came to do the shearing. Because
of a last minute cancellation, Jenny and Les Foshay, of Bridport VT were
also able to come and help us get everyone shorn before the rains began
again. With 8 adults (2 of which were shearing), a teenager, and two
kids, we were able to complete the task in about 8 hours and be done
before the rains came again. Many thanks to Esther, Jenny,
Les, Tino and Evelyn for all their help. For more shearing photos and an
explanation of the shearing process, click here.
AOBA Marketing
Erin is a new member of the AOBA Marketing
Committee. The committee is lucky to have many highly qualified
sales, marketing, and advertising professionals on board. I think we
will be able to accomplish great things for the industry in the coming
year. I hope to be able to make a difference for all AOBA members,
particularly the smaller start-up farmer on a tight budget. I
welcome any ideas you have for future activities for AOBA marketing.

Peruvian Genesis

We are proud to announce our purchase of future herdsire
Peruvian Genesis from John and Lyn Callen of Mettowee
Valley Farm. John and Lyn bred this beautiful boy by pairing
their female, Peruvian Esprit, with Maple Brook Farm's famous herdsire Bueno.
We chose to name this boy Genesis because we hope that he provides the
foundation for a long line of beautiful, show winning colored alpacas with
exceptional fiber qualities. Bueno is well known for producing crias
with outstanding fiber in many different shades. Genesis has a brown
spot that indicates that he also will be able to pass on color genetics to
his crias. This, combined with his beautiful fiber qualities, should
produce a winning combination. We can't wait to add him to our
herdsire lineup in 2003. Boy, alpaca breeding sure does take
patience!
Our heartfelt thanks go out to the Callens for their
friendship and support.
